Fertilization and Weed Treatment Programs

Maintaining a green healthy lawn without those unsightly weeds can be a very difficult process. Fertilizers and pesticides can be costly when not applying them properly and at the right time of the year. Here at Joe Blade Lawn and Garden we adhere to IPM (Integrated Pest Management) standards held by The Georgia Department of Agriculture. We keep up with trends and new products through continuing education and regular visits to the Co-Operative Extension Agent at The University of Georgia.

LAWN FERTILIZATION SERVICE PROGRAM

Bermuda and Zoysia grasses (warm season grasses that go dormant in the winter).
1 SPRING premium pre-emergent and premium fertilizer- Granular application applied to control any weed seeds from germinating. Time released fertilizer allows balanced green-up and nutrients for lawn health.
2 EARLY SUMMER premium balanced fertilizer- Time released granular application applied to promote extended color and maintain lawn health. A post-emergent blend will be used if needed to treat existing young weeds.
3 MID SUMMER premium pre-emergent- Granular application applied to control any weed seeds from germinating. The treatment continues coverage from spring
pre-emergent application. Weed prevention is less costly than treating mature weeds.
4 LATE SUMMER premium balanced fertilizer- Timer released granular application applied to help with the effects of summer stress. A post-emergent blend will be used if needed to treat existing young weeds.
5 FALL premium pre-emergent and potassium fertilizer- Granular application applied to control winter weed seeds from germinating. Time released potassium fertilizer nutrient helps grass in the stressful time of winter cold and dormancy.
WINTER Optional treatment- Liming- Lime improves the clay soil by increasing the pH allowing fertilizers to be utilized better during the growing season. This form of lime treatment takes several months to work. Applications can be made throughout the year; yet we recommend applying lime 2-3 month prior to the growing season.

Fees are minimal since the application is only treating areas of concern thereby saving you money. Disease treatments and insect control are available at a reasonable fee.  Spot treatments may be necessary for perennial weeds and non desirable grasses; additional fees apply. Fertilization estimates are provided to customers prior to work performed.

All plants require proper nutrients to battle the demands of drought, disease and insects. Proper fertilization with a balanced time release fertilizer will do just that. TIMING OF PLANT FERTILIZATION APPLICATIONS are critical that’s why we only apply fertilizer in the spring and fall. Keep your garden healthy by fertilizing your plants using proper trimming techniques and water.
